Fall in small savings

This is with reference to "Inclusion is more than an account" (Business Line, December 7). The reported fall in small savings is a cause for worry. Besides being a source of assured funds for economic development, household savings meet expected and unexpected expenditure.

The small-saving schemes, which were a good working arrangement to garner savings by households and small traders, appear to be either non-existent or not operational. Incentives, campaigns and diverse banking products will be necessary to attract people, especially the rural folk, to save.
