BHPV may be merged with BHEL

The ailing Bharat Heavy Plate and Vessels Ltd here is to be merged with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) and the Union Government has taken a decision to that effect, according to a note issued by Mr N. Janardhana Reddy, member of the Lok Sabha from the Visakhapatnam constituency.
In the press release issued here on Wednesday, Mr Reddy referred to his efforts to get BHPV and Hindusthan Shipyard Ltd revived. "The Union Minister for Heavy Industry, Mr Santosh Mohan Dev, deserves praise for his efforts to get the BHPV merged in the BHEL," he said in the press release.
Mr Dev would visit Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam during January 6-7 to discuss the modalities of the merger with the unions, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and officials. The formal announcement would be made then, according to the release.Once a profit-making PSU employing more than 5,000 workers, the BHPV had become sick in recent times though it had orders worth more than Rs 200 crore on hand, Mr Reddy said.
