Steady trend in Kochi tea sale

CTC varieties opened steady at the Kochi tea auction, which had 10,62,000 kg of dust tea on offer.

Prices of orthodox varieties also remained steady. Liquoring CTC varieties witnessed a good demand from blenders and other domestic buyers.

There was some export enquiry for medium bolder grades.

Best CTC dust varieties fetched Rs 63-75, while medium CTC realised Rs 50-58 and below medium was quoted at Rs 42-45.

High grown BOPD varieties fetched Rs 87-110, medium BOPD quoted Rs 44-46 and secondaries were quoted Rs 40-42.

Leaf Sale

There was a good general demand for the 3,94,000 kg of leaf tea on offer at the auction. Medium primary orthodox broken and whole leaf grades were steady to dearer byRe 1-Rs 2. Other varieties were also steady to dearer as buyers pursued quality. Prices of secondaries and poorer orthodox varieties tended to ease. Prices of CTC leaf also improved by Re 1-Rs 2.

Best Nilgiri leaf varieties fetched Rs 75-95, medium orthodox ranged between Rs 48-85 and plain orthodox was quoted at Rs 44-45. Best CTC leaf grades fetched Rs 50-54, while medium CTC realised Rs 45-48.

Top Prices

Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price in the dust segment at Rs 110, followed by Pasuparai FD at Rs 87, Parkside BOPD at Rs 87 and Pasuparai SFD at Rs 80.

In the leaf auction, Quinshola FP-S fetched the top price at Rs 127 followed by Tiger Hill FPS at Rs 124, Glendale FPS at Rs 122 and Colacumby FP at Rs 117.
