DORMANT PRICES: A farmer tending his vanilla crop in a plantation near Pullpally in Kerala's Wayanad district. Vanilla cultivation in the country is spread over 5,000 hectares providing livelihood to over 80,000 farmers. Increased availability and limited buying continue to push prices of vanilla down in the domestic and international markets. Currently, the green beans hardly fetches Rs 60 a kg.
