Hyderabad , Dec. 22

The 10th anniversary of Bhosle Gopal Rao Patel Eye Centre, Mudhol, in Adilabad district of the Hyderabad-based, LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) was kicked off on Wednesday.

This was LVPEI's first rural satellite service centre, aimed at providing secondary eye care for a population of 5,00,000 in northern Adilabad, an underserved district of Andhra Pradesh.

VISION CENTRES

Each satellite service centre has under its umbrella 10 vision centres that provide primary eye care, each of them targeting a population of 50,000. The Bhosle Gopal Rao Patel Eye Centre was set up on December 20, 1996, with support from two international NGOs - Christoffel Blindenmission, Germany, and Sight Savers International of the UK.

Till date the centre has seen over 1,22,000 patients and provided surgical treatment to more than 16,000 patients, almost 65 per cent of it free of cost, the LVPEI said.
