ITC Ltd and Abhishek Industries Ltd received the Institute of Company Secretaries of India National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance 2006. The ICSI Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on Dr J.J. Irani, Director, Tata Sons Ltd.

Tamil Nadu Governor, Dr Surjit Singh Barnala, presented the awards. The winners were selected by a jury headed former Chief Justice of India, Mr V.N. Khare. Around 200 companies participated for the award and 25 were nominated to the awards.
