The Hindu Business Line : 2 Keralites get entrepreneur awards

Citigroup has announced two winners from Kerala, Ms P.S. Sarojini as the national runner-up and Ms Lila John in the social responsibility category for the micro entrepreneur awards for 2006.

They are among the 12 national award winners from 22 States from the four regions of the country, a press release issued here said. A six-member jury chose the winners.

The 2006 awards assume special significance as the year marks a decade since Citigroup began partnering with NGOs for capacity building of the micro credit sector since 1997. Citigroup has partnered with seven NGOs through multi-year grant of almost $10 million from its philanthropic arm, Citigroup Foundation.

Mr Sanjay Nayar, CEO, Citigroup India, said: "This has been a very fulfilling year for us with several of our corporate social responsibility initiatives touching important milestones. I am proud of our well balanced approach of fulfilling our responsibility to help strengthen our communities, whilst investing in our business operations and pursuing market opportunities."
