Rubber contracts for April top Rs 100

Physical rubber prices scaled further heights on Tuesday. The market gained strength from bullish global indices and the buyers in the main centres were covering groups and speculators, sources said. Players from the domestic futures market were also active in spot, they added.

Sheet rubber touched Rs 95 a kg before settling at Rs 93 (Rs 91.50) a kg at Kottayam. The grade closed at Rs 94 (Rs 93) a kg at Kochi.

Rubber futures firmed up on NMCE. January contract finished at Rs 95.95 (Rs 95.62), February at Rs 98.50 (Rs 97.72), March at Rs 100.51 (Rs 99.41) and April contract at Rs 103 (Rs 101.6) per kg for RSS 4.

The market lost the initial gains on profit booking towards close. The trading volumes totalled 9,468 (2,003) lots and open interest 7,560 (7,480) lots.

The January contract for RSS 4 closed at Rs 96.10 against Rs 95.39 a kg, while the transactions were quoted at 1373 (262) tonnes on MCX.

Spot rubber prices (Rs/kg) were: RSS-4 : 93 (91.50); RSS-5 90(88.50); ungraded 85.25 (84.25); ISNR 20 89.50 (87.50); and latex 60% 63.65 (61.55).
