Visakhapatnam , Dec. 26

The Andhra Pradesh Government is planning to establish an education zone on the outskirts of Vizag, to attract premier institutes such as the Indian Institute of Management besides major B-schools.

After a review meeting with the officials, Mr K. Ramakrishna, the Minister for Commercial Taxes, said at a press meet here on Tuesday that the Chief Minister was apprised of the proposal and he was also keen on it. "There is no proposal to establish an IIT here but the Government is serious on the education zone proposal. We want to bring B-schools here," he said.

The minister said the city had received Rs 350 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and several works, costing Rs 135 crore, had been taken up already.

The District Collector, Mr Anil Kumar Singhal, and others attended the review meeting.
