Average price of cardamom goes up

The weighted average price of cardamom has increased to Rs 302.44 a kg this season till December 14 against Rs 227.13 a kg on during the same period a year ago.

Good buying support pushed up the total sales in auctions during November substantially by 350 tonnes to 977 tonnes from that of October and notwithstanding the fact that prices remained steady during the past six weeks, trade sources said.

Total arrivals as on December 14 stood at 3,773 tonnes. Of this, 3,432 tonnes were sold. During the corresponding period last season, arrivals were 4,678 tonnes and sales 4,378 tonnes.

The average prices of graded varieties as on December 9 were: AGEB Rs 370- 380, AGB Rs 285-Rs295, AGS Rs 265-275 and AGS 1 Rs 235-245 a kg.
