ENCOURAGING ELS CULTIVATION: Extra long staple (ELS) cotton being grown by the South India Cotton Association (SICA) at a private farm in Coimbatore. SICA is encouraging farmers in the Coimbatore region to grow ELS cotton to meet its growing demand. Currently, spinning mills depend mostly on imports to meet their ELS requirement.
