Banks in Dakshina Kannada cross Rs 13,200-cr biz

Banks in Dakshina Kannada district have reached the business level of Rs 13,209 crore as on September 30.

As many as 363 branches of various banks achieved this business, which includes deposits of Rs 8,085 crore.

This was informed here on Thursday at the district consultative committee and the district-level review committee meetings for banking development. Syndicate Bank, the lead bank of the district, organised the meeting.

Welcoming the gathering, Mr K.U. Shanbhag, Deputy General Manager of Syndicate Bank, expressed satisfaction over increase in credit-deposit ratio from 56 per cent to 63 per cent and for the good performance in disbursement under the district credit plan for 2006-07.

Mr A. Gopal, Lead District Manager, said banks in the district had opened 56,015 `no-frill' accounts under the financial inclusion programme. All banks have adopted villages for extending banking facilities under the programme.

Potential-linked plan

The potential-linked credit plan (PLP) for Dakshina Kannada district for 2007-08 was also released on the occasion.

Speaking on PLP, Mr K. Praveen Raj Udupa, Assistant General Manager of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard), said the potential for the district had been assessed at Rs 1,603.22 crore. This has been decided taking into account the existing infrastructure and support services, credit delivery network and the ground-level credit flow during the past three years, he added.
