Mumbai , Dec. 28

Container logistics company Gateway Distriparks Ltd (GDL) has been selected to operate and manage the Punjab Government's container freight station (CFS) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port for a period of 15 years.

GDL will be required to pay an upfront fee of Rs 35 crore and an annual fee, which will be Rs 10 crore, in the first year. The CFS is located about seven km from JNPT, with a covered storage area of 52,500 sq m involving four warehouses. "We consider JNPT as the major focus area for our CFS business. Our present 35-acre CFS at JNPT has a capacity to handle 2.16 lakh TEUs and contributes 75 per cent of our throughput. The present initiative will increase our capabilities significantly, as also the range of services," Mr Gopinath Pillai, Chairman of the company, said.
