Power cuts

We have been having power cuts in Andhra (or is it Andhera?) Pradesh for so many years now.

The public throughout the State, including the hi-tech capital city, is condemned to endure the blackouts.

Whenever it is power cut time, the government of the day talks only about cutting the supply, buying power from the neighbouring States (often, at any cost) and more often blaming it on the previous government's misrule.

While the power wastage in the State is very high (on account of pilferage, negligence, indifference, hugely subsidised tariff, non- metering, lack of accountability, lack of awareness, non- application of energy efficient technologies and devices, wasteful practices, and so on), why does no one in power talk about power wastage and its minimisation?

Wastage of electricity, especially in government offices, should be declared a criminal offence, with a high penalty.

This would not only eliminate the need for power cuts but also help to drastically improve the quality of the environment and life, locally and globally.
