Bajaj Auto December sales rise 24 pc

2-wheeler sales up 21 pc

Bajaj Auto Ltd, manufacturer of two and three wheelers, has reported a 26 per cent growth in bike sales for December 2006.

The company registered sales of 1,87,063 bikes in December 2006 compared with 1,48,263 bikes for the previous year period. The total two-wheeler sales stood at 1,87,179 (1,54,925), registering a growth of 21 per cent.

According to an official communication, the three-wheeler sales stood at 27,749 as against 18,534 vehicles, a 50 per cent growth.

Total two- and three-wheeler sales were 2,14,928 vehicles (1,73,479), posting a 24 per cent increase.

It added that exports were 39,385 vehicles as against 18,534 vehicles, accounting for a 113 per cent growth.

"Three-wheeler and export sales continue to exceed expectations, and this trend appears likely to be maintained in the next quarter as well,'' it said.

The communication added that it is expanding its motorcycle capacity to three lakh units per month by April 2007.

The release said the Bajaj Kristal DTS-i, the first product from an all new high tech scooter platform, would be launched this month.

For the quarter ended December 31, BAL has reported a 28 per cent increase in motorcycle sales at 6,52,406 units as against 5,11,106 units in the corresponding period last fiscal. Exports in the quarter under review grew by 80 per cent at 1,15,619 units (64,359 units).

Its sales for the nine-month period ended December 2006 stood at 18,43,654 units compared with 13,79,206 units during the corresponding period last year. Exports for the quarter ended December 2006 were 3,25,728 vehicles as against 1,76,765 vehicles, registering an 84 per cent increase, it added.
