Mumbai, Jan. 2

Radio Mirchi continues to top the daily listenership charts in Mumbai and Delhi, and is also ahead of the pack in Kolkata, the company said in a statement on Tuesday. The FM leader had a total of 95.61 lakh daily listeners across all three metros — 26.29 lakhs in Mumbai, 42.01 lakhs in Delhi and 27.31 lakhs in Kolkata — based on the findings of Indian Listenership Track 2006 Wave 2 conducted by MRUC (Media Research Users Council) and AC Nielsen ORG-MARG. Listenership data was collected from mid-September 2006 through November 2006. Trailing Radio Mirchi were Radio City, with 18.93 lakh and 20.94 lakh daily listeners in Mumbai and Delhi respectively, and Red FM with 6.58 lakh, 20.48 lakh and 7.64 lakh daily listeners in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata respectively.

During the period of Wave 2 study, Radio Mirchi added 5.74 lakh listeners in Mumbai but lost 2.57 lakh listeners in Delhi. However, the other radio stations were unable to make major gains in Delhi, helping Radio Mirchi to retain its 2:1 lead over Radio City. The listernship study was conducted for the first time in Kolkata.
