The West Bengal Government today denied that it has issued any notification for acquisition of land at Nandigram in East Mednipur district. Earlier in the day, a large crowd of people owing allegiance to Krishi Jami Bachao Committee attacked the gram panchayat office at Nandigram Block I after rumours started doing the rounds that the District Magistrate was scheduled to arrive with the notification for acquisition of land.

Asked by newspersons at Writers' Buildings, the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, said no notification had been issued for acquisition of land at Nandigram.
