Metro trains on time despite fog

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Jan 3

Even as the punctuality of airlines and trains of the Railways have been badly affected by the foggy conditions here, the Delhi Metro trains have successfully maintained 100 per cent punctuality. The trains do 1,108 trips every day and all trips have been running on time, said a release. In the Delhi Metro a train is considered late if it is more than 60 seconds late. The Metro trains are equipped with the most advanced signalling systems available world wide - Automatic Train Operation (ATO) and Automatic Train Protection (ATP) - with computerised train control and central monitoring ensuring safe and punctual running in all types of weather conditions.

All signal clearances can be viewed by the Metro Train Operators inside the driver's cabin; they are not dependent on normal line side visual sighting of signals, which can affect train operations in foggy and bad weather conditions. These signalling systems have been used for the first time in India by the Delhi Metro and have been installed by Alstom of France and Siemens of Germany.
