Kolkata , Jan. 3 Tata Steel's saleable steel production at 3.66 million tonnes during the first nine months of 2006-07 marked an increase of 11 per cent over saleable steel production during the corresponding period of last fiscal. During April-December 2006, the company produced 4.1 million tonnes of hot metal and 3.7 million tonnes of crude steel. According to a company press release issued here, total sales in the first nine months of the current fiscal was 3.532 million tonnes, an increase of 11.7 per cent over sales during the corresponding period of last fiscal. Domestic sales of long products increased 30 per cent.
Market share up
Sales of `Tata Tiscon' increased by 50 per cent even as the company's market share in the rebar segment went up to nine per cent. The cumulative volume of `Tata Shaktee' sold since its brand launch was expected to reach one million tonne by March 2007. Tata Steel is the first steel company in India to sell rebar by length, thereby providing customers with an opportunity to cut costs. The release states that the Indian automotive market was expected to grow by 17-18 per cent in the current fiscal. On its part, Tata Steel was hopeful of augmenting its market share in the domestic automotive segment from 41 per cent in 2005-06 to 43 per cent in 2006-07.
