Dunlop's Ambattur unit to resume operations soon

Kolkata , Jan 3

Dunlop India's facility at Ambattur, near Chennai, is expected to resume operations over the weekend. The plant has been out of operation for almost two months now.

The plant, which had resumed commercial production in August 27, 2006 after long closure, came to a grinding halt in November as differences cropped up between the company and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) over power tariff, leading to non-payment of electricity bill and disconnection of power supply.

Though TNEB resumed the supply on November 30 based on an interim order from the Madras High Court, the company was yet to resume production in the factory.

"The sudden disruption of production during November has impacted the operations of the factory, which includes supply chain and other logistics, which takes time to recover. Also, it offered us an opportunity to further fine-tune the entire production process, including the cost structure," a company spokesperson told Business Line.

"All major production areas are already reorganised and the factory is set to begin operations, hopefully more efficiently, this weekend," he said, adding that the initial production is estimated to be 30 tonnes.
