The Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences has been presented the `Jawaharlal Nehru Prize', for popularisation of science, by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, at the inaugural of the 94th session of the Indian Science Congress on Wednesday at Annamalai University, Chidambaram.

The award carries an amount of Rs 1 lakh. It has been given for the key role played by the Akademi in the development and popularisation of science at all levels. The AP Akademi is the first State Science Akademi established in the country, according to Mr M. Bhagvanth Rao, its President.
