Power States - Andhra Pradesh AP to step up hydel generation Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Jan. 3 The State Government plans to initiate steps to boost hydel power generation that would meet the demand for power from various lift irrigation schemes. According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, senior officials of the State power and irrigation sectors met Chief Minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. It was proposed to generate about 1,800 MW from Pulichintala, Indira Sagar (Polavaram), Dummugudem and Singareddypaly projects.
TERMS OF CONSTRUCTION
AP Genco has decided to finalise the terms of construction of various projects and a committee constituted with Principal Secretary (Energy) Mr A.K. Goel would study the various aspects for speedy implementation of these projects. Most of these projects are expected to be completed by 2008-09. It is estimated that the total demand from lift irrigation projects would be 2,352 MW and the effort to generate additional power from new hydel projects is aimed at meeting this demand.
SIMHADRI REPAIRED
Meanwhile, NTPC has said that its 500 MW unit at Simhadri, which was off grid lately, has been repaired and is performing at 100 per cent plant load factor. To some extent, this additional capacity would ease up the demand supply gap that the State is faced with. Another 210 MW unit of the Vijayawada thermal power plant, which was also off grid, is likely to be back either late tonight or tomorrow. Meanwhile, the State is procuring 50-150 MW, depending upon availability, from West Bengal.
