Infrastructure States - Andhra Pradesh Housing, irrigation sectors get priority in AP Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Jan. 3 The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has directed the Finance Department to accord priority to the irrigation and housing sectors aimed at expediting projects in these two sectors in the State. After a detailed review of housing schemes in the State, Dr Reddy, who reviewed the progress, asked the Housing Department to complete housing schemes on schedule. According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, 17. 81 lakh houses have been allocated under the Rural Permanent Housing (RPH) scheme, Indiramma and 2.86 lakh houses under flood relief housing. Of the 20.68 lakh houses allocated, 17.79 lakh houses have been sanctioned and 11.25 lakh houses grounded as on December 31, 2006. Kadapa is leading in the physical progress of Indiramma. Of the 2.34 lakh houses allocated under urban permanent housing (UPH) scheme, 2.27 lakh houses have been sanctioned at the district level and only 44,176 houses have been grounded so far. There are some 5.79 lakh spill-over houses (both rural and urban) from last financial year and of them 1.50 lakh houses have been completed. By the end of December 2006, during the financial year, Rs 1,065.75 crore has been spent on housing projects. Regarding the Rajiv Gruha Kalpa (RGK- Phase I), the statement said tenders were finalised for construction of 45,558 flats, which would involve an outlay of Rs 278.32 crore. The Chief Minister directed that the RGK - Phase II to be taken up immediately. The cost of single bedroom flat would be around Rs 4.50 lakh and double bedroom flat Rs 6.50 lakh. There might be slight escalations by the time the construction was completed.
