Ahmedabad , Jan. 4 The Ahmedabad-based pharmaceutical major Claris Lifesciences Ltd has announced the launch of Meriva - Meropenem injection, an ultra-broad spectrum carbapenem infective, a company spokesman said here today. Meropenem is the new generation, carbapenem injectable infective for a wide range of serious ICUs infections, including bacteremia, meningitis and pneumonia. The domestic market for meropenem injection is estimated to be around Rs 100 crore and is growing at a rate of around 16 per cent. The global market size for the injection is estimated at around $505 million.
With this introduction and a strong pipeline of superior anti-infectives, Claris is looking to carve a niche for itself in the global injectable anti-infective market.
Anti-infectives is the fifth largest pharmaceutical category, with a global market size of $44 billion and injectables form 20 per cent of this market. Claris is betting on anti-infectives to make a significant contribution to its growth plans, especially in the regulated markets.
Claris Lifesciences, which expects its current turnover of Rs 400 crore to increase to Rs 1,000 crore by 2010, manufactures and markets sterile parenteral preparations, life saving medicines and hospital products, focusing on delivery systems, for treatment of critical illness and diseases.
