Tea prices mixed at Kochi sale

Prices of most CTC varieties that opened on a strong note, tended to ease towards close of the Kochi dust tea auction. Orthodox high grown varieties tended to ease while medium and secondaries remained steady. There was 10 lakh kg of dust tea on offer at the auction.

Major blenders lent support to good liquoring and better CTC varieties, while the buyers for the internal market were selective. Exporters operated on bolder CTC varieties.

Best CTC varieties fetched between Rs 63 - 75, medium CTC realised Rs 50 - 57 and below medium commanded Rs 42 - 45. High grown BOPD varieties were quoted at Rs 79 - 108, medium BOPD ranged at Rs 44 - 46 and secondaries were at Rs 40 - 42.

Leaf Sale

CTC leaf varieties witnessed good demand, while the market for superior varieties was steady to dearer. There was less general demand for orthodox varieties while medium orthodox primary broken and whole leaf grades remained steady. Prices of medium and secondaries tended to ease.

High grown quality brokens and fannings remained steady.

There was less export enquiry for orthodox grades this week.

Best Nilgiri varieties commanded Rs 75 - 95 and medium orthodox was at Rs 45 - 75. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 51 - 55 and medium CTC was at Rs 46 - 50.

Top Prices

Kodanad BOPD quoted the highest price in the dust segment at Rs 108, followed by Pasuparai FD at Rs 85, Pasuparai RD at Rs 78 and Chinnar SFD at Rs 77. In the leaf segment, Quinshola FP-S quoted the top price at Rs 122, followed by Colacumby at Rs 120, Havukal BOPF at Rs 119 and Chamraj FOP at Rs 115.
