Call to focus on tapping green fuels

Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam , Jan. 5

India should focus on tapping green fuels such as bio-diesel and bio-ethanol to meet its energy needs, as the fossil fuels are getting fast depleted the world over and there is an imperative need to evolve appropriate strategies to promote jatropha cultivation in the country, said Mr M. Ganapati, President of Reliance Group of Manufacturing Industries. He was speaking at the two-day national symposium on chemical engineering, which concluded here on Friday at the Andhra University.

Mr Ganapati said Reliance, on its part, would do its best to tap the green fuels. "Jatropha curacas is our best bet and we want to promote contract farming on marginal lands. Inter-cropping should also be encouraged," he said.
