SAIL division produces record iron ore

Steel Authority of India's (SAIL) raw material division (RMD), which mainly caters to the iron ore needs of the company's eastern region plants located in Bokaro, Rourkela, Durgapur and Burnpur, ended the 2006 calendar year with record iron ore production of 16.83 million tonnes. This was the best-ever production of iron ore in any calendar year since the inception of RMD.

According to a press release issued here, Kiriburu and Bolani mines achieved an all-time best production of 3.9 mt and 3.56 mt, respectively, thereby registering a growth of 4.39 per cent and 4.58 per cent, respectively, over 2005. Production at Barsua iron ore mine in 2006 was higher by 12.17 per cent over 2005.

In December 2006, most of the mines under RMD recorded their highest-ever monthly production of iron ore, the release adds.
