Great Lakes to sign MoU with IIT Madras, IISc

Archana Venkat

To offer executive MBA programme

Chennai , Jan. 7

Great Lakes Institute of Management plans to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IIT Madras and Indian Institute of Technology (IISc), Bangalore to offer an executive M.B.A programme.

According to Mr S. Sriram, Executive Director, Great Lakes, the M.B.A would focus on innovation in management. "It is a special programme for PhD holders and scientists at IIT and IISc and will be tailored to suit their innovative temperament," he said at the sidelines of `CEO Conclave', a panel discussion held as part of the institute's annual management festival. The M.B.A programme would also seek to develop innovative management practices through knowledge sharing.

The programme is likely to commence in a year and is expected to be a two-year programme, he said.

Scope of MoU

Besides the M.B.A programme, Great Lakes also plans to extend the scope of the MoU to include sharing of academic and industrial research among the institutes. As of now, it has entered into an informal agreement with IIT Madras to permit students of both institutes to attend common guest lectures and other important lectures. Mr Sriram said talks were on with IISc for a similar arrangement.

The `CEO Conclave' focused on how to brand Chennai. Mr S. Ramadorai, Chief Executive Officer, Tata Consultancy Services, said Chennai could become the gateway to India for many Asian countries. "If the city leverages its expertise in select areas such as manufacturing, textiles, film making and service engineering, it can become a brand to reckon with," he said.

Skilled manpower, high standard of education institutes, low cost of operation and infrastructure were some features already attracting businesses to the city, he said.

He inaugurated the Great Lakes annual magazine called `Gravity' that focused on marketing India as a brand. The magazine contains articles on marketing and finance by academicians and businesspersons such as Dr Philip Kotler, Ms Indra Nooyi, Dr Gita Piramal and Dr Seenu Srinivasan.

Other members who participated in the `CEO Conclave' were Mr V. Balaraman, Chief Executive Officer, Adrenalin Systems, Mr Raghavendra Rao, Managing Director, Orchid Chemicals, Mr Andrew Sherman, Chief Partner, Dickstein Shapiro and Mr Sumanth Krishnamurthi, President and Chief Executive Officer, Global Datasec.
