Passport verification certificate

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Jan. 7

Thanks to a decision by the Union Government to simplify the process for issue of passports, Presidents and Chairpersons of CII, FICCI and Assocham have been empowered to issue verification certificate for owners, partners and directors of the member companies. The verification certificate from these chiefs would make it easier for top executives of the member companies and organisations to get passports in the tatkal scheme.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr B. Bala Bhaskar, Regional Passport Officer, gave a list of officials that included Mandal Revenue Officers and Station House Officers (sub-inspectors) of police stations, who were empowered to issue verification certificates.

The Hyderabad office ranked first among all its peers in issuance of passports with 4.35 lakh passports during 2006. It issued a record number of 62,000 in June alone. Listing various measures taken up by the office in further easing the process of getting passports, he said the number of tokens issued would go up to 920 from 820 to allow more people to approach officials.
