Ponmudi eco-tourism project

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 7

The Forests Minister, Mr Binoy Viswam, will inaugurate the Ponmudi eco-tourism project coming up in rural Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. The Department of Forests has joined hands with the Thiruvananthapuram Forest Development Agency and the Department of Tourism to implement the project, an official spokesman said here.

Situated at about 3,500 ft above mean sea level, the popular Ponmudi hill station nestles in the Western Ghats from where two major rivers, the Vamanapuram and the Kulathoopuzha, originate. The Ponmudi ranges, which house evergreen `shola' forests in stretches, conform largely to the `grassland' specifications.
