AT BPCL OUTLETS: DR P.K. GOEL (LEFT), Managing Director, IRCTC, exchanging documents with Mr Sanjay Krishnamurti, Executive Director (Retail), BPCL, after signing an agreement for setting up Railways' e-ticketing facility at petrol pumps, in the Capital on Monday. Ramesh Sharma
New Delhi , Jan. 8 You can soon buy your train tickets from petrol pumps. In line with its aim to increase the points where tickets can be bought, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) on Monday entered into an agreement with BPCL to make available e-tickets at BPCL retail petrol outlets. BPCL also plans to sell e-tickets at its liquefied petroleum gas distributor locations. At these outlets, people can even book tickets for various tour packages arranged by IRCTC. By January end, the service will be available at 38 `In and Out' outlets of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) in Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai. By March, 100 BPCL outlets are likely to be covered. The number of such ticket selling petrol outlets may further increase as IRCTC is also in talks with other oil marketing companies to make available train tickets at their outlets. For booking sleeper and second-class tickets, users would have to pay a service charge of Rs 40 extra (Rs 20 for IRCTC and Rs 20 for BPCL) and for air-conditioned (AC) tickets, users have to pay additional Rs 55 (Rs 30 for IRCTC and Rs 25 for BPCL) on a per ticket basis. Bookings for up to six passengers can be done in each ticket. Payments can be made using credit cards and debit cards also. However, the total booking charges may come down as the IRCTC Managing Director, Dr P.K. Goel, today said that IRCTC is contemplating reducing booking amount per ticket. The memorandum of understanding for setting up e-ticketing facilities at BPCL outlets throughout the country was signed by Dr Goel and the BPCL Executive Director (Retail), Mr Sanjay Krishnamurti, here today. Mr Krishnamurti added that the out of the extra charges collected by BPCL per ticket, 70 per cent would go to the dealer where as 30 per cent would go to BPCL.
