Rupee weakens by 18 paise

The rupee weakened by 18 paise on Wednesday on dollar buying by foreign banks. The rupee opened at 44.46/48, touched an intra-day low of 44.55 and ended at 44.55/56 against Tuesday's close at 44.37. "Weak stock markets also impacted the rupee," said a dealer at a private bank. The rupee also tracked other currencies such as the yen and the euro. In forwards, the 6-month closed at 3.05 per cent (3.49 per cent) and the 12-month at 2.69 per cent (2.91 per cent).
