Tea Open outcry sale at Coonoor tea auctions P.S. Sundar
Coonoor , Jan. 11 The auctions at Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) held here on Thursday returned to open outcry system as the computers developed technical hitch. "We understand that there is some dispute between the service providers and the Tea Board in respect of payments for the e-auctions. Consequently, the service providers have stopped giving the service and the computer remains clogged. We will conduct manual auctions on Friday also," an auctioneer told Business Line.
Prices, volume up
Prices, generally, rose Rs 2 a kg over last week in Thursday's sale of leaf grades. Overall, a volume of 11.33 lakh kg has been catalogued for the second auctions to be held this week. This is some 4,000 kg more than last week's offer. But, this is some one lakh kg lower than the offer in the corresponding auctions of last year. Of the 11.33-lakh kg now catalogued, as much as 8.23 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and 3.1 lakh kg to dust grades. Again, as much as 10.4 lakh kg belong to the CTC variety and only 0.93 lakh kg to orthodox variety. The orthodox proportion is low in both the leaf and dust grades. In the leaf grade, only 0.46 lakh kg belong to orthodox, while 7.77 lakh kg to CTC variety. In the dust grade, only 0.47 lakh kg belong to the orthodox variety, while 2.63 lakh kg belong to the CTC variety.
