Mumbai , Jan. 11

Tata Consultancy Services Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, for a postgraduate course in `Storage Computing Architecture'.

The agreement, which is for a period of five years, will also cover joint research in storage computing and related technologies.

TCS will sponsor students for the course and provide project work. "Our strategic partnership with IIT Kanpur will utilise some of the best young talent in the country and will leverage our experience in storage for innovative applied research. We see immense potential to develop distinctive assets and end-to-end solutions for the industry," said Mr S. Ramadorai, CEO and Managing Director, TCS, at a news conference on Thursday.

TCS and IIT Kanpur have together designed the content of the new, two-year M. Tech course.

The software company will also establish a storage-computing laboratory at IIT Kanpur. "We have identified storage computing as a technology area that will become part of the mainstream over the next few years. Demand for cost-efficient storage services are going to be a key trend in the future," added Mr Ramadorai.
