Kolkata, Jan. 11

State Bank of India's first redesigned branch in the city was inaugurated on Thursday at the Salt Lake Electronic Complex. Under "Operation Samay", the bank is going to redesign all its branches to provide better services to its customers, according to a press release issued by SBI.

Inaugurating the branch, Mr Ashok Mukand, Chief General Manager of SBI, Bengal Circle, explained the features of the newly designed branch. "The focus of the newly-designed branches will be on boosting sales of the various products of the bank and providing efficient services to customers, with the back office operations pushed out of the branches into central processing centres," said Mr Mukand. More space would be available to customers in these new branches; there would be new queue management to offer service on `first come first serve' basis, single window operation, opening of new accounts and the delivery of ATM cards and cheque books almost instantly and various other facilities, he added.

Meanwhile, Mr Anjan Ghosh Dastidar has joined SBI Bengal Circle as General Manager Network II.
