Bangalore , Jan. 12 Karnataka, fast emerging as an important centre for winery given the growing culture of wine drinking in the country, has seen yet another entrepreneur set up a processing unit at Boothanal, on the outskirts of the historic city of Bijapur. Hampi Heritage Winery, an enterprise started by Mr Ramesh C. Jigjigani, a BJP Member of Parliament, plans to make wine based on a French style. The company cultivates grapes that can produce international-quality wine and plans to launch its first product under the brand name "Naka Spurt" on January 16. Hampi Heritage has made an initial investment of Rs six crore in the winery which is currently producing 1.5 lakh litres, to be scaled up to 5,00,000 litres in about three months. Vinod Farms, promoted by Mr Jigajinagi, will supply grapes grown in its 100-acre farm to Hampi Heritage Winery, enabling it to produce a variety of wines. Mr Jigajinagi, has served as a Minister in the Government headed by the late Mr Ramakrishna Hegde and Mr J. H. Patel.
