The Bangalore-based firm paid $2.5 m for the strategic acquisition

Bangalore , Jan. 12

Kavveri Telecom Products Ltd (KTPL) announced on Friday its acquisition of the Ontario-based Til-Tek Antenna Inc, a technology company supplying high-quality antenna products for base stations of wireless telecom companies.

The Bangalore-based Kavveri paid $2.5 million for the strategic acquisition with the prospect of it penetrating the North American markets along with Til-Tek in synergistic products. Also Til-Tek, which has become the wholly-owned subsidiary of KTPL, could bring its products to India.

Addressing a Press conference here on Friday, Mr C. Shivakumar Reddy, Managing Director of KTPL, said that Til-Tek's products would help in adding a significant number of products in GSM, CDMA and WiMAX markets to Kavveri's portfolio."We would be pitching these antennas not only in the Indian market but also in the developed markets," Mr Reddy added.

Kavveri, with a customer base including Motorola, Ericsson, Nokia, Nortel, ZTE, Hutch, Reliance, Spice and BSNL, manufactures radio frequency (RF) products and antennas for many GSM and CDMA operators.

Its three facilities are located in Bangalore while it has its subsidiary, Eicom in Puducheery, which makes RF products for exports.

Faster growth

Kavveri Telecom and Til-Tek were working jointly on a new product to launch a single package antenna for both GSM and CDMA systems to be able to integrate with 3G-technology. The product is expected to be introduced in March.

Mr Reddy said Til-Tek with its current turnover of $5 million would help in faster growth of Kavveri Group. Kavveri's had a turnover of Rs 37 crore with a growth of 35 per cent in the last four years. Its subsidiary Eicom contributed Rs 7 crore to the Group's revenue, he added.

Mr Reddy said the capacity of Til-Tek could be scaled up three-fold to $15 million without any additional investment.
