Outlook JK Paper to start making packaging boards soon Debdatta Das
New Delhi , Jan. 12 JK Paper Ltd, a group company of J.K. Organisation, is all set to start production of multi-layered packaging boards over the next three months from its Surat plant. "We are all set to start the production of multi-layered packaging boards in the next three months," said Mr Harsh Pati Singhania, Managing Director, JK Papers Ltd. The company will be producing around 60,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of packaging boards, for which it had invested around Rs 300 crore. The Surat plant, which manufactures maplitho or copier paper, has a capacity of around 55,000 tonnes per annum (tpa).
More investments
The company is also looking at making further investments for the expansion of its printing and writing-manufacturing segment. "Though no formal decisions have been taken so far, we will arrive at a decision very soon, since the printing and writing segment holds a lot of promise for the future. Besides, it would take around three years for the expansion process to get over and production to start," Mr Singhania said. Printing and writing paper is manufactured from both its Surat and Orissa (1.25 lakh tpa capacity) plants. "The company plans to spend around Rs 500-600 crore in the coming two-three years, that includes the investment on multi-layer packaging products," according to company officials. The company had recorded sales of 197,000 tpa of coated paper last fiscal and was positive of further growth this year. JK Paper had registered a turnover of around Rs 844 crore in 2005-06 and expects to clock about Rs 1,000 crore in the current fiscal 2006-07.
