New Delhi , Jan. 13 The suspense over who is going to head the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (P&NGRB) seems to be ending, with the name of Mr Labanyendu Mansingh, former Consumer Affairs Secretary, emerging as the front-runner to head the board. The board is being set up to regulate the refining, processing, storage, transportation, distribution, marketing and sale of petroleum and petroleum products, and natural gas, excluding production of crude oil and natural gas so as to protect the interest of consumers and entities engaged in specific activities relating to petroleum. According to sources, Mr Mansingh's name has emerged as the number one choice for the post of Chairman of the Board after a search committee, headed by the Planning Commission Member (Energy), Mr Kirit Parikh, went through various names.
Mr S.C. Tripathi, former Petroleum Secretary, who had not applied for the position, emerged as the second-best choice. While the name of Chairman and Managing Director, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Mr M.B. Lal, has emerged as the first choice of the Committee for the post of Member (Technical) on the appellate body, Mr B.S. Negi, former Director (Business Development), GAIL (India), was the second choice for the job.
