Paper industry output to double

Hyderabad, Jan. 13

The Indian Paper Manufacturers Association (IPMA) said that the Indian paper industry is poised to grow to 14 million tonnes in 2015-16 from 7.2 million tonnes in 2005-06. Together with the growth in volumes, the industry would also attract huge investments in the next few years. "The IPMA member mills alone will be investing Rs 12,000-Rs 15,000 crore over the next ten years," Mr Pradeep Dhobale, the newly elected President of IPMA, said. "With only 7.2 kg per capita consumption compared with 350 kg in developed countries and 42 kg in China, the paper industry in India holds a huge potential for growth," he said. Mr Dhobale said that one of the major constraints the industry faced was inadequate availability of quality raw material at a competitive cost.
