NTPC-Simhadri strike called off

The contract workers in the NTPC Simhadri thermal power station here called off their 12-day-old strike seeking higher allowances, after reaching an agreement with the management and contractors on Saturday.

The workers were demanding Rs 600 as monthly allowance, but it was finally agreed that Rs 200 would be paid as dust and canteen allowance and Rs 208 more as an incentive to each worker per month.

Mr Varahala Reddy, the Deputy Labour Commissioner, NTPC officials, and Dr Mohan Kumar, district President of INTUC, participated in the talks. The contract workers' union is affiliated to the INTUC.
