`Small-scale sector must seize biz opportunities'

Our Correspondent

Madurai , Jan. 14

The small-scale sector should seize the business opportunities emerging from the improving economic conditions and the congenial business environment in the long-neglected Latin American Countries (LAC), Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Sub-Saharan African (SSA) Countries, said Mr B.S. Keshava Murthy, Chief Regional Manager, Indian Overseas Bank, here.

Inaugurating a seminar on `Foreign trade policy and export strategies for penetrating into LAC/CIS/SSA countries and benefits under MDA scheme', he said the exporters from the sector should avail themselves of the assistance extended by the Government under the Market Development Assistance (MAD) scheme for focus area export promotion programmes in specific regions abroad to develop their business. Export Promotion Councils and India Trade Promotion Organization organise in these regions fairs/exhibitions, arrange business-sponsored meetings and encourage trade delegations besides providing wide publicity, he added.

The technical sessions that followed discussed the export strategies for penetrating into LAC/CIS/SSA countries and MDA scheme, foreign trade policy, role of Export Credit Guarantee Corporation (ECGC), export documentation, export finance and marketing.

The Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (Maditssia) and the Basic Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics Export Promotion Council (Chemexcil), the Ministry of Commerce, supported by ECGC, State Bank of India and Export Import Bank organised the seminar.
