Microsoft enterprise products in demand

V. Rishi Kumar

Hyderabad , Jan. 14

Microsoft Corporation has made swift inroads with a family of new products into the domestic enterprise market offering two compelling reasons — enhanced productivity and improved responsiveness for informed decision making.

The Director, Information Worker Business Group, Microsoft Corporation (India), Mr N.B. Sundar, said that 2007 Microsoft Office System, Vista and 2007 Exchange Server bring a compelling value proposition to enterprise customers since they help them transform their businesses.

Barely within weeks of the launch of these three major products,, Microsoft has sold over 8,85 lakh 2007 Microsoft Office Systems and over 2 lakh Windows Vista Operating Systems. Like the Office 2003, the current variant launched in English and Hindi, would be offered in 14 languages within three-six months, he told Business Line.

Microsoft believes that the large Indian IT workforce, and sectors such as manufacturing, banking and financial services, and the Government are rapidly taking to these new family of products. He cited the case of a large organisation like Indian Railways taking to these products.

Since these products require transitioning from the existing IT infrastructure and in some cases even upgrading hardware, the company is meeting enterprises across seven major cities in the country with case studies and references and their strategic partners. Partners include Intel, AMD, EMC, Nortel, Wipro, Kingston, Sonata and other system integrators, and independent software vendors.

Better user experience

During his visit to Hyderabad, Mr Sundar said that these products bring in a lot more intuitiveness and provide for enriching user experience. The best part is they combine the power of security at the platform stage. Since issues like phising are major concerns for corporate sector today, they get addressed at the early stage itself.

Referring to Office features, Mr Sundar said it comes packed with `The Ribbon' that is a primary replacement for the new Microsoft Office user interface and the new interface is through contextual tabs. Together, these products simplify how people work together exchanging information; finding information required for better business insight; helping protect and mange content and increasing security and helping reduce IT costs.

The other interesting feature these products bring relates to enabling businesses to take advantage of the benefits of Internet-based software service that would help enterprises to tap into online services.

Microsoft has reference users from Wipro Infotech, Cognizant, Godrej to home in the product features. It now expects to reach out to other cities and meet enterprises across business segments.
