Trade & Labour Unions States - Kerala Nabard staff plan agitation Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , Jan. 16 The All India Nabard Employees Association has decided to launch a nationwide agitation to press a list of demands. Announcing details agreed upon during a meeting of office-bearers at Hyderabad, Mr Jose T. Abraham, Vice-President, said the association took strong objection to the stoppage of the General Line of Credit (GLC) support to Nabard (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development). GLC is a short-term agriculture credit to cooperative banks and regional rural banks. This, according to Mr Abraham, will only further aggravate the problems on the farm front. Also reprehensible was another decision of the Reserve Bank to stop contributions to the National Rural Credit Funds maintained and run by Nabard. Other objectionable points cited by the association were the decision to stop treating Nabard bonds as priority sector bonds from April 1, 2007 and withdrawal of staff welfare measures.
