United Bank of India has rolled out its first CBS (core banking solution) branch in Kolkata on January 15, in the presence of Mr P.K. Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director; Ms Sunanda Lahiri, Executive Director, and other senior officers of the bank, says a press release.

The bank has plans to extend the CBS facility to 600 branches throughout the country in phases. Within calendar 2007, around 230 more branches will be brought under CBS, which provides the bank's customers with a "one bank one customer" environment and also the "anywhere banking" facility.

On December 6, the bank launched the "United Online" (Internet banking facility), which was inaugurated by the Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram. The online banking facility provides for e-payment of taxes, balance enquiry, fund transfer and a host of other services, adds the release.
