Kolkata, Jan. 16

Vedic Village, the international spa resort in Kolkata, located 20 minutes away from the Kolkata International Airport and 40 minutes from the centre of the city, added a new dimension to its portfolio on Tuesday when the foundation stone for a 60,000 sq. ft., eight hall, latest `Eco Convention Centre' was laid. The ceremony was presided over by Mr Manabendra Mukherjee, Minister for Cottage & Small Scale Industries and Tourism Department, West Bengal.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mukherjee said, "the Convention Centre is a unique project and I am confident that the group will deliver the final product in time and give me the chance to inaugurate it as well." Elaborating on the project, Mr Michel J. Robertson, Director & CEO, Vedic Village, said: "the structure which is designed as a building of the future will be created under a grass covered hillock which avoids the `urban heat island' effect of asphalt and tar surfaces in large building structures. The layer of grass cover on the roof and sides of the building in the form of a hillock helps regulate temperature naturally and absorbs and cleans storm water."
