Suguna Poultry to invest in livestock vaccine project

G. Gurumurthy

Coimbatore , Jan.16

The Suguna Poultry group is investing in bio-technology project. The company is expected to invest Rs 40 crore into the new venture, which will involve initially in production of poultry vaccine and subsequently expanded to the entire livestock vaccine manufacture.

The project will be an independent venture by the promoters of Suguna and basedin Hyderabad.

"We may start the work in two months and the project would be commissioned within the next two years," Mr B. Soundarajan, Managing Director of Suguna Poultry Farm Ltd said.

The vertically integrated poultry group is with a view to raise its business volume from the present Rs 1,100 crore to Rs 3,000 crore over the next 3-4 years and is drawing its vaccine project to enlarge its in-house business solution.

Mr Soundarajan told Business Line that though cost of vaccines in the poultry production constituted less than one per cent, vaccine usage by itself is a crucial aspect in achieving the desired productivity in the poultry chain. At present there has been a demand-supply gap in poultry vaccine. The three indigenous poultry vaccine-producing companies cater only 60 per cent of the demand and the remaining is met through imports. The decision by Suguna to get into vaccine production is to take advantage of the domestic demand, besides tapping the export market as export of poultry vaccines to South-east Asian and West Asian markets presents good scope.
