Spices & Condiments Demand props up jeera Our Bueau
Mumbai , Jan. 16 Strong demand from the northern markets pushed up jeera prices on the spot market by Rs 100 to Rs 9,150 per quintal, while the futures on NCDEX was up 1.15 per cent to Rs 9,210 per quintal. "Despite being the peak arrival season, there was good demand for Jeera on the spot market as dealers expect the prevailing chilly weather to affect output. The prices may firm up further by Rs 100," said Mr Harish Galipalli, head of research at Karvy Comtrade. Sugar futures on NCDEX gained 1.76 per cent to Rs 1,619 per quintal on short-covering by investors
Potato rises
Buying at the lower level pushed up potato marginally by 0.77 per cent to Rs 470 per quintal. Tur for February delivery on NCDEX was down 1.59 per cent to Rs 2,098 due to good arrivals at the Karnataka and Maharashtra spot markets. Chana futures on NCDEX remained range-bound at Rs 2,212 per quintal, down 0.54 per cent.
