Bangalore , Jan. 17 Wipro proposes to start a new facility in Uttaranchal to manufacture switches in the next six months, said Mr Vineet Agrawal, President, Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting. "We are in the process of searching for suitable land in Uttaranchal," he said. Meanwhile, Wipro has doubled the capacity of its fatty acids manufacturing plant at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh. "We are also planning to set up a lighting and switching unit in Baddi over the next six months," Mr Agrawal said. Investments for the proposed expansion would be met from the already earmarked budget of Rs 60-70 crore for the current year, he said.
Strong demand
Wipro is witnessing a strong demand for its consumer care and lighting products, he said. For the December quarter, Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting reported revenue of Rs 211.4 crore, a year-on-year growth of 36 per cent and a profit before interest and tax (PBIT) of Rs 26.2 crore, a year-on-year growth of 25 per cent. Wipro Consumer Care accounted for 5 per cent of Wipro's total revenue and 3 per cent of PBIT. Santoor, Office Modular Furniture and CFL Lighting grew by 30 per cent, 63 per cent and 63 per cent, respectively, during the quarter. The company was witnessing good traction in the modular furniture space, Mr Agrawal said. "We are enhancing our chair assembly unit in Chennai by utilising our shoe upper production facility," he said. Wipro also manufactures shoe uppers in Chennai, which is mainly exported.
