Ahmedabad , Jan 17

Amaethon 2007, the three-day annual Agri Business Summit, will be held at Indian Institute of Management - Ahmedabad from January 19.

Amaethon, which was first held three years ago, would be a meeting place for the brightest and the most experienced people in the field as well as young managers, IIM-A said in a release.

Participants

Nearly 500 participants from 50 B-schools and 33 agri-business management colleges across India would interact with experts from the agri-business sector and compete for the over Rs 6 lakh prize money.

This year Amaethon would feature business plan contests, commodity trading games, management games, paper presentations, case analysis, panel discussions, movie reviews, and other events.

This year's theme is "The Awaited Dawn", referring to the need for a new beginning in the country's agriculture and development sector to match the growth in the corporate and industrial sector. Participants would attempt to find ways to modernise agribusiness in India through possible policy changes, government initiatives, or through modern technology and practices like the promotion of commodity trading. They would analyse issues like agriculture productivity, micro-credit, managing risks in agriculture and rural infrastructure, and look for ways to improve these.

Mr Joseph Massey (Deputy Managing Director, MCX), Dr K.G. Karmakar (Managing Director, Nabard), Mr Parag Desai (Director, WaghBakri Tea), Dr Sudarshan Iyenger (Vice-Chancellor, Gujarat Vidyapith), Mr Jagat Shah (CEO of Global Networks, International Trade Management Consultant) Mr Satyan Mishra (Founder and CEO, Drishtee.com), Mr Vipul Mittra (Commissioner and Secretary, Rural Development, Gujarat Government) and Dr Bakul Dholakia (Director, IIM-Ahmedabad) will be among those guiding the students.
